🦁 A Roaring Adventure Awaits: Lion King Themed Holiday Camp in Surrey
If you’re searching for a magical, creative, and confidence-boosting way for your child to spend the summer holidays, our Lion King holiday camp in Surrey is just the ticket. Whether your little one is destined for the West End or just loves dressing up and making new friends, this fully immersive show-in-a-week experience is designed to bring out the best in every young performer.
Held at the Esher Theatre, this exciting holiday camp combines professional performance standards with imaginative fun, all inspired by one of the world’s most beloved musicals: The Lion King.
🎭 What is a Show-in-a-Week?
A “Show-in-a-Week” is exactly what it sounds like: children spend five days preparing a musical production — learning lines, songs, choreography, and crafting props and costumes — all culminating in a heartwarming performance at the end of the week.
But this is more than just theatre. It’s a place where:
-
Confidence blossoms
-
Friendships form
-
Children experience the pride of creating something magical together
And for our Lion King holiday camp in Surrey, we’ve pulled out all the stops to make this week truly unforgettable.
🧒 Two Age Groups, Two Tailored Experiences
We know that children develop at different paces, and our camp has been carefully designed to reflect that.
🌱 4–7 Year Olds: Jungle Explorers (Ensemble Roles)
This group focuses on imaginative play, singing, dancing, and storytelling. They’ll take on fun ensemble roles in our Mufasa Show-in-a-Week, learn simple choreography, and even create their own costumes and props. The emphasis is on participation, inclusion, and having fun — no pressure, just pride.
🦁 6–8 Year Olds: Pride Leaders (Principal Roles)
For slightly older or more confident children, this group provides an opportunity to shine in larger speaking roles. With scripts in hand, they’ll be cast in principal parts, learning lines, solos, and leading scenes. It’s perfect for kids who are ready to step up while still enjoying the play-based spirit of the week.
If your child falls between age brackets, you can decide whether they’d thrive more in the ensemble or with a bigger role.
🏟 A Real Theatre Experience
What sets our camp apart is the venue itself. Your child won’t just be putting on a show in a school hall — they’ll be performing on the professional stage at Esher Theatre, complete with:
-
Professional lighting & sound
-
Real theatre tech and atmosphere
-
Stage entrances, curtains and wings
This gives children a real taste of theatre life and a thrilling sense of occasion. It also makes the final performance feel incredibly special for both performers and parents alike.
🌟 “My daughter couldn’t believe she was on a real stage with lights and everything! She’s been singing the songs ever since.” — Parent feedback, 2023
✂️ Created for Them – Not Just Performed by Them
Most children’s theatre camps use off-the-shelf scripts, which can be confusing, too hard, or simply not inclusive.
We don’t do that.
Our shows are written in-house, specifically for our cast each week. That means:
-
Every child gets a part
-
No lines that are too long or too hard
-
Flexible casting to suit personalities and strengths
-
No little ones being sidelined by big kids
This approach is core to our ethos of inclusive, confidence-building theatre — and it’s one of the reasons parents come back to us year after year.
🎨 Creating the Pride Lands
Another thing that makes this week so special is the hands-on creativity. Children will help craft their own costumes, animal ears, masks, and props, bringing the jungle to life in their own way.
This taps into their imagination and gives them ownership of the final performance — which is especially wonderful for children who love making and creating as much as performing.
🎨 BBC Tiny Happy People has brilliant tips on how creativity and performance can support emotional development in early years.
🧠 Screen-Free Confidence Building
We believe in the power of screen-free, active play to support children’s mental and emotional well-being. This holiday camp is fully offline — no devices, no YouTube — just movement, music, laughter, and teamwork.
Our leaders are trained not just in performing arts but also in working with children to build self-esteem, emotional regulation, and social confidence. We support even the shyest of children to feel brave, supported, and proud of their progress.
👪 Parent-Friendly, Too
We know what it’s like to book a camp and worry if your child will feel left out or if you’ll get value from it. Here’s why our Lion King week works so well for families:
-
Clear daily structure (10am–3pm)
-
Early drop-off & late pick-up options (except on performance day)
-
Warm, experienced staff
-
Final performance with full tech and costumes (yes, you get to come watch!)
-
Small group sizes for individual attention

🎓 Why Performing Arts Matter
You might be wondering: is it really worth it?
Well, the benefits of performing arts go far beyond the stage. According to research from The Arts Council UK, participation in arts-based activities:
-
Boosts confidence and public speaking
-
Improves literacy and communication
-
Develops teamwork and leadership skills
-
Encourages emotional regulation and resilience
And of course — it’s a whole lot of fun.
🧭 Is This Camp Right for My Child?
If your child:
-
Loves animals or dressing up
-
Enjoys music, singing or dancing
-
Needs a confidence boost
-
Has never tried drama before
-
Enjoys arts and crafts
-
Gets a bit overwhelmed in big mixed-age groups
…then YES — this camp is the perfect fit.
🛑 What We Don’t Do
It’s equally important to be clear about what we don’t do:
-
No competitive auditions
-
No favouritism towards older children
-
No high-pressure rehearsals
-
No passive “watch-and-wait” roles
Every child is involved, valued, and encouraged.
