What to Expect at Our Half-Term Performance Workshop in Esher, KT10
So your teen loves musicals, or maybe they’re a bit dramatic (in the best way), or they’re just looking for something fun and different to do this May half-term? Well, let us introduce you to our half-term performance workshop in Esher, KT10—a two-day performing arts experience that’s packed with confidence-building, laughter, and a sprinkle of sass.
This isn’t your average drama camp. It’s bold. It’s fun. And it’s perfect for young people who are ready to explore something a bit more challenging and exciting.
Who is it for?
We’ve designed this intensive for pre-teens and teens who love musicals, enjoy performing, or just want to try something new in a creative, supportive environment. Whether your teen is:
- An all-singing, all-dancing theatre kid
- A quiet thinker who’s never stepped on stage
- A bit shy, a bit quirky, or super confident
…they’re welcome here. We structure the sessions to make sure everyone feels included and challenged at their own pace.
So… what actually happens?
One of the most exciting parts? They’ll get to spend the whole experience on a professional stage at Esher Theatre—learning and rehearsing in a real performance venue. It’s a fantastic way to inspire young performers and give them a taste of the spotlight! Let’s break down what a typical day looks like at our two-day half-term performance workshop at Esher Theatre:
Day One: Get in, loser—we’re starting camp!
- Warm-up games to break the ice (we keep it silly, inclusive, and fun)
- Introduction to key scenes and characters from the musical (with our own age-appropriate spin)
- Group singing and vocal technique – we dive into harmony work and explore dynamic ensemble singing
- First steps into choreography – we’ll teach sections of the iconic dances (yes, there will be some sass!)
- Team-building tasks and mini performance games that help build trust and connection
Day Two: You can sit with us!
- Recap and rehearse material from day one
- Dive deeper into acting technique and scene work
- Workshop characterisation and storytelling – how to express emotion through voice and movement
- Finish learning a musical theatre medley from the show
- Optional sharing at the end of day two for friends and family who want to come and cheer them on!
What makes this camp different?
Unlike our other camps that build towards a full show across several days, this two-day intensive is all about depth over duration. We’re using this shorter format to dig into the more technical side of theatre—think harmonies, stylised choreography, and more demanding character work.
We’re also giving space for personality. Our performers can bring their own ideas to the table and help shape how scenes unfold. It’s collaborative, creative, and most of all—it’s fun.
A note on inclusivity
We know the title Mean Girls might raise an eyebrow—but don’t worry, this camp is the total opposite of cliquey. The themes we explore are all about kindness, confidence, and being true to yourself. We use the musical as a starting point to talk about friendship, self-worth, and how to be brave.
And yes, we make sure there’s a role for everyone. Whether your child wants to sing centre stage or stay in the background dancing with their pals, they’ll be supported and celebrated.
